As I have been taking vocal lessons for four years, a small part of me was worried about how much I would actually learn. Those fears were put to rest on the first day. I picked up a lot of knowledge that I can apply to my lessons and to future auditions and shows. The program was definitely a more classical, bel canto approach to singing, which was perfect for me, as my repertoire consists mainly of opera, art song, and classical/operetta style musical theatre. However, do not let this stop you from going if you sing other styles of music. Anyone can benefit from proper technique training and fresh ears and ideas. From what I have heard from college students and alumni of arts programs, the experience I received at Utopian Arts gave me a taste of what studying at a conservatory would be like. As well as a glimpse of college, I also now have connections with some of the instructors. Networking is very important in the arts, and having experienced and qualified adults that you trust to whom you can go for advice and recommendations is fabulous. I so enjoyed my time at Utopian Arts and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in vocal performance.
